Savannah, GA

I finally made the move and left the incredible confines of Charleston, SC. I spent a great week there and am thankful my hosts, Kevin and Cathy, did not get sick of me. At least, I don’t think they did.

There is no spellcheck on this thing, so good luck. I’m sitting at the City Market in Savannah, on the upper level of a coffee shop called Boba. I just spoke with the owner as I ate some chili and a ham wrap. Not too shabby.

In the distance I can hear and sometimes see some fireworks that I’m assuming are coming from a van down by the river. I love fireworks and the trails, but I hate the booms. I’m not sure why, but they bother me to the point where I don’t enjoy 4th of July until the fireworks end.

I left CHAS at about 11:30 (30 minutes after the target) and headed south on I-17. Rather than going straight to Savannah, I made a detour over to Edisto Beach. It was cool, but more of a family place and I wasn’t in the beach mood. Do you believe that, I have all the time in the world and I don’t want to sit on the beach. Doesn’t sound like me does it?

After Edisto I headed towards Savannah. I made some phone calls to catch up with some folks. Steeplechase, a horse race/event, was taking place in Charlotte today. A few of my friends were there. Mike, V and the Big Redd Machine had a big day with the horses and then Jimmy Buffet tonight. Sounds like a good time. I also talked to a buddy of mine, Tony, who I helped out with the Steeplechase last year. I was asked to be the bookie for his company. I turned 21 in Vegas, so I gladly said OK. I dressed the part with a suit and fedora to go with it. It was fun for me and them. I told him I needed 10 points from the bookie this year.

I got in to Savannah at about 5 and headed towards an island which the name eludes me right now. I tried to go up into the lighthouse, my Mom is a big fan of lighthouses, but I was 30 minutes to late. I’d like to check one out sometime.

Tonight is my first experience in a hostel. I was glad to see it wasn’t in the hood and not rat infested. Where I’m staying is pretty big and has 5 sets of bunk beds. I checked in at about 7:30 and it looked like no one was on the top bunk. I hope it stays that way. There is an older guy who looks like he’s been there for a while at the front of the room, next to the windows. He has hangers and it just looked like he’s been there for a while. I said hey to him and he responded back, but nothing much more.

The place has a TV room, a kitchen, a laundry and a smoking area. It’s not too bad. I was hoping I’d run into some people staying there and hang out with them. But when I got there, it was just me and that guy. So I took off toward the city market.

I’m going to need to figure what a traveler does while in a city. I know what to do when I’m driving, writing, eating, etc…, but now that I’m in a city, now what? I’m not really the guy who goes into a bar and strikes up a conversation with everyone.

There are two cuties sitting on the CPU next to me, but they are way young. Earlier in here, a girl called me sir. I don’t think my chances are too strong, so the sir will keep quiet.

I’m continuing to type as this has become a good therapy for trying to figure what to do. I’ll just keep typing and avoid the decision.

I guess I’ll call it and see what mischief I can get into.
