Rochester, NY

I am hip. I am cool. I have on a white long sleeve T and a grey T shirt over it. It’s the T that the people at Penn State gave me when I spoke there. This is my first exposed long sleeve T experience. I feel like I need to look younger for G Love and Special Sauce wait for me tonight at Water Street Music Hall. G Love has been a special part of my journey. I listened to the Electric Mile CD over and over while I put the thousands of miles on my SUV. It will be interesting to hear what is played tonight. I am going with a group of people I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. I know the music. In Charlotte I had a chance to see G. I passed, my roommate and I then regretted it and went to the location to buy tickets. Sold Out. In Rochester I had a chance to go last year but passed. I was mad at myself. Money is tight right now, but I am not passing up the chance again.

ESPN.com should have a page that says: Click here if you want the real time results from the Olympics. Instead, as soon as you enter their site it gives you the headlines. It ruins the prime time TV experience when you know what happens. With the click a page to see what happens link, people could be spared if they don’t want to know. Well, I need to see who won the figure skating.

What a show. What a night. I met up with my friend at 6:30, met up with her co-workers and headed off to see G. It was a mix of a lot of strangers whose goal was to listen to some great music. Drinks were continually handed to me and I sipped a lot of them as the music played. G Love lived up to the advance billing as an energetic performer. The crowd was packed in tight and he let us know he knew Rochester, NY. The more concerts I go to, the more I need to temper my song list expectations. I walked in with a specific set of hopefuls and the ones he chose were great, but I felt like I wanted the ones I knew best. I think that’s just how all concerts are. G was dressed in a sharp brown suit over a pink shirt. The harmonica was affixed to his neck for a lot of the night and his blue guitar glistened under the lights. We bobbed and weaved to the tunes and I had to fight a long battle to not run to the bathroom until the show was over. Mind over matter. He didn’t play as long as we’d hoped, but it was still worth the time and money.

After the show the group split and I found myself at a stranger’s house drinking some of the best wine I’ve ever had. Simi 1999 was an excellent year for cab. The host opened two bottles and each sip was a burst of flavor. Looking online I see the bottles may have been $70 purchases. A great host. From there it was off to Acme for some pizza.

Common sense prevailed and I crashed on the couch until 6 AM. My contacts were stuck in my eyes, but I always carry the drops. Here I am. Time for bed. Great concert. Check them out if they are in your area.
