Charleston, SC

I met a girl here last Friday night. I did not meet “a girl,” just a friend who said something about Charleston. I told her on that night what I was doing and that I would be here for a day or two. Well, those days turned into a week.

Things have been great here. I’m staying at a palatial house with a California atrium backyard. I’ve been to the ocean a few times. I’ve eaten great food and met some amazing people. But I’ve got to go. I can’t stay here for my trip. Although, I could.

Yesterday was a fun time. I was glad to learn my cousin Colin and his expecting wife Kim were coming to Charleston for the weekend, arriving Thursday. So, I twisted my arm and decided to stay another night. It’s always a blast when the Harrison’s get together. Kevin and Colin are like older brothers to me and I love hanging with them. We caught up, ate some great food, and sat out back of Kevin’s house. We had a fire and laughed a lot. We then attacked the leftover chocolate cake I told you about from Kevin’s birthday. It was a funny site, 5 of us (Kevin, Colin, Cathy, Kim and I) just gorging ourselves on this huge chunk of cake and the ends of a tub of ice cream. No plates or bowls, just the 5 of us like vultures, swooping in with forks and spoons. Colin and I also mixed in a little left over chicken. He and I also made an impromptu Miller High Life print ad with a beer bottle, some chicken bones and a bruiser of a bull dog, Winston. We laughed hard about that. I’ll see if I can download that at some point. Miller, if you want the ad, let me know.

I slept on the couch last night. Kevin and Cathy have 2 dogs and 5 cats. I’m used to sleeping by myself. I’m trying to sleep and a one Squeak McGee jumps on the bed. Man, I must have jumped straight off of the couch into a standing position. I felt like Queen Latifah in that movie with Steve Martin, “Who dat? Who dat?” It took a while for the adrenaline to where off. But, when I woke up today, there was me and Squeaks.

I woke up to, “We’re leaving in 20 minutes.” Huh? I rubbed my eyes and there was Colin. “Beach in 20.”

So, I twisted my arm and headed to the beach with Colin and Kim. The ocean is the nuts! We laid out, took a walk, took a nap (Mom, I used sunscreen), and came back to Kevin’s. Cathy said it was cool if stayed tonight, so rather than leaving and getting to my campsite at 9:00, I twisted my arm and here I am.

As Jen said on Friday, last Friday, “Charleston is like quicksand. It’ll suck you in.” It has.
