Rochester, NY

2:25 PM

It’s a perfect day in Rochester (finally). The sun is shining, the breeze is slight, and the day is open. I just got my oil changed, saw my mom and her friends at work, and had lunch with my dad. The car was a pain, as the Hyundai dealership only opened a week ago. They couldn’t swipe my debit card. So I had to go to BofA. Their ATM was out. I went in. It used to be a Fleet, but their CPU’s don’t talk yet. I had to wait 15 minutes to get the money. I got the money.

Wednesday was pretty awesome. I got my dad to come with me to Letchworth State Park. I hadn’t been since I was a kid. He hadn’t been in a long time, since I was a kid. He’s not the guy that would go to Letchworth without being dragged, well maybe not dragged, but prodded. I could tell he was going because I wanted to. Once we got there it was cool to see him take the lead. “Let’s go here.” “I forgot how beautiful this was,” he said referring to the waterfalls. We had a great time. We always have fun together, but this was cool because it was different.

We went into Geneseo, grabbed a sub, threw it in my backpack, and we were off. We entered on the north part of the park. There isn’t much on the north side. We were both getting hungry and I could tell he was wondering where the good stuff was. I didn’t know. But we pushed on and made it down to the lower fall. It was a perfect day and we found a perfect spot. The Genesee River is only one of few that flow south to north. We sat on the bridge just north of the base of the lower falls. The bridge took you to a look out point. We plopped down on the bridge ledge, opened our packs, and sat in the shade and ate a leisurely lunch. This may be the best spot that I’ve eaten, except maybe the sandwich at Gayhead beach in Martha’s Vineyard.

“This is why I wanted to come here,” I told him as we ate and relaxed. “I can see why,” he replied and I knew he got it. My man got it and that was what it’s all about.

We carried onto the other falls. We walked quite a long way. The views are amazing, and only an hour from home. You take things for granted that are at your doorstep. We had a great day, topped it off with a milkshake in Perry, and headed home to tell mom about it over dinner.

I was way bummed when I got home and downloaded the pics. I took a ton of them, but it had rained hard for previous day and the water was brown. It didn’t pick up well at all on camera. This was one of the few times that the pictures did not capture the essence of what I did.

I then went out and saw a friend of mine from high school, Tim, and his band. They played at a small place. They said it was only their second time out playing. I was leery and told Becky. They more than impressed. They played form 9:30 to 1:30. For a band just getting started, they were tight. They played some covers but I liked the sound of their originals. I’ll cross paths with them again.

Thursday was a recovery from a 4 AM bed time. I did some CPU stuff and some errands. I stayed in last night and watched a movie with my parents, Punch Drunk Love. “That was a weird one,” is what they said. It was. But not bad. I got it for free from the library (you can rent free videos from the library), so I didn’t care.

Today has been notated above. Becky is coming over with crab legs, pork chops, and some sides. That should be a cool day. I’m not sure what I’m doing tonight. This is the hard time as I have so many people to see and catch up with. I sometimes want to do nothing and relax, but I’m not too good at doing that.

Enjoy Labor Day Weekend!!!
