10:22 AM

I woke up this morning to the sound of helicopters flying overhead. This is not a usual occurrence at my parents place. The choppers were there looking for a missing man. It is weird when a disappearance happens near you. In this case, it is as close to my home as I’ve experienced in my life.

Yesterday, I would say 200 yards from the house were cop cars, crime labs, horses, snowmobiles, and many other people. They were all searching for a local guy who had wandered off into the swampy, marshy woods on Friday night. Why would he go in there? I have no idea. From what the news said, he got into an argument (verbal) with his friends and took off for the woods. He only had a fleece on for warmth. When I got ready to go home on Friday night, at 2 AM, it said it was -2 degrees out. Down by the lake, I bet it was colder.

As I get ready to leave and go to a business lunch (it’s been a while for that), I will drive by the search crew. I will wonder as I do now, why am I not out there helping? They may not want civilians, but I bet I there are people helping. In my front yard is this thing, and here I go to a business lunch.

We hope they find him. We hope he’s not in there, in the frozen swamp. We hope he’s pissed off at someone or the world and after realizing that the woods was not a good idea, took off out of town. I hope he’s reading the internet about how they are looking for him.

For a white boy from the suburbs, this is out of the ordinary. He’s 23. He has his whole life to live for. I’ve seen lives come to an end way before their time. I know what that does to friends and family. I hope he is found.
