I’m still here. I haven’t written in the journal much because I haven’t been doing much. It’s been great to be home and relax. My parents have been great about putting me up and putting up with me. I feel like a kid again, having dinner with them nightly and talking to them about jobs and my writing. It’s been good for me and my dad to watch football together. I watched a ton of it this weekend. South Carolina lost a hard fought game to Georgia. Dallas lost not a hard fought game with Minnesota. I won my first fantasy football game, but two of my receivers got hurt, Charles Rogers (out for year) and Steve Smith (out 2 – 3 months). I am snake bit on these type of things. I’m going to try and work a trade.

I played disc golf today with Josh. It was a great time. We are about the same skill level (below average), he may be a bit better. We went to Ellison Park. It was a hot lower 80’s day. The course is on the side of a hill. It must get a lot of drainage because it was pretty wet. My white shoes are now dirty. Why I wore white shoes I do not know. We didn’t keep score. It was just fun to be out there. And it’s free. And you can wear a t-shirt. It was a great day for it, but it was wet and it was buggy. The mosquitoes were everywhere. Josh and I both had Off, but we both failed to pack it. Next time. They are everywhere.

I got home, showered up, and my mom and I had a dinner date. We couldn’t decide on where to go, so my fat stomach won out on a Chinese buffet. It was pretty good. I was a bit scared when we pulled up and the parking lot was near empty, but it filled up as we were there. We had a good time talking and trying different things. That’s what I like about a buffet, you can sample a little of everything. And I got my mom to try some sushi. She had never had it before. We started with the typical California rolls and a few others. The sushi guy must have taken a liking to me or he was bored. As I was putting the basics on my plate, he reached over and handed over four other rolls that I normally wouldn’t touch. They were orangey and long on top of the rice. I took them, tipped him, and thanked him. I then wondered if I should try them. We both started slow, but I eventually went in for the unknown. I added a little soy sauce, a little wassabi, and a little ginger. It wasn’t too bad. My mom even tried some of it. We both liked it. It turned out it was salmon. It had to be uncooked because when I tried to bite it, it didn’t rip apart too easily. It was chewy, but tasty. I’m not keeled over puking, so it had to be OK.

The weekend was pretty much football and a little social. I saw a couple of bands on Friday night. One was outside, a Dave Matthews cover, Tripping Billies. Anytime you can hear free music outside and walk around in public with a beer, I’m down. We then went to another bar and saw Uncle Plum, a local band who plays covers and their own stuff. They were good.

Saturday was football and family. My aunt and uncle along with my dad’s cousin and his wife came over from Corning to see my parents for the night. It was good to see them. My aunt is a special lady. My uncle and I share the same passion for football. We spent a lot of time in the living room.

I then went out and drank too much. Some people I hadn’t seen in a long time bought me shots and I accepted. Shots are my downfall. I stayed the night at my sister’s place. Sunday was all NFL all day. My cousin calls them Fat Sundays. You sit, eat, and veg. I did it.

So the writing continues. It’s coming along. I can’t wait to get out west and see all that there is. We shall see.
