Ah, summer has finally hit the northeast. I type with sunburned shoulders after the second 90 degree day of the weekend. This is when it is nice to be on big and cold Lake Ontario. My sister, BIL, and I ventured into the Lake for the first time yesterday. The heat of the day made the chilly water feel good, but only after a few minutes of adjusting. Pool people would not enjoy it, but lake people do. So the first swim of the year occurred in mid-June. Probably hard to fathom for my friends in the south.

It’s funny how doing nothing but sitting outside, raking the beach, and lounging can wear you out. Rochester has had an international jazz festival here for the past 10 days and Saturday was the finale. I was planning on going, but instead chose to low key it and watch the Stanley Cup final. Not a close game, but a good one. Game 7 should be intense.

Father’s Day was a good one over here. Made a getaway to Sears this morning to get my dad a new grill. He’s one who says if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it, but his grill was showing the signs. Every time you lifted the cover off of it, pieces of the wood shelving on both sides would come off. Not an operational issue, just an annoying one. The burners also run way hot. Anyway, I snuck out and got him a new one already assembled. That was a prereq. It would have been a long day if he, Bryan, and I were sitting around piecing together a grill. Not the handiest of crews there.

I am still trying to get over the weirdness of the golf US Open. If you told me two guys would have a shot to win the thing on 18 and make double bogeys to lose it and miss a playoff, I would’ve said no way. If you told me those two guys were Phil and Monty, there was no way that could happen. Pretty crazy. They both will be replaying their swings and decisions in the next weeks. But, as is golf, you must forget the previous shot and move on. The past is the past. Learn from mistakes.

Less than a week to go until I hit the road. This will be a fun leg because I will have travel companions. The guys I met up with in Maine a couple of summers ago will be going. We are all pumped up. It’s been fun to plan where we are going and what we’ll do. I have a lot to do this week. My Santa Fe needs new tires before she can join the mix and there is a ton at the consulting job, but everything will fall into place. On the road again…
