Man, what a bummer that was. I had my ham and cheese sandwich, salad, and yogurt all spread out on the TV tray. The channel was set to ESPN2 and the crowd was in a frenzy. My cell phone was off and the office phone was upstairs. I was ready to finally get engrossed in the World Cup. The US and the Czech’s entered the pitch and the first game for ole’ Team USA was off and running.

Well, not 5 minutes in a 6’8 guy towered over us and headed one in. 1-0. Sloppy, non-attacking play by the US followed and I ended the game by going to back work once the score became 3-0, in the 75th minute. We had a couple of chances, with one hitting the post, but all in all, we were outclassed. I’ve read and heard how competitive we we’re going to be, but we sure didn’t look like the #5 team in the world. I guess we’ll see what happens next.

I am as big of a sports fan as they get, but US Soccer needs a good performance in this Cup. I am not sure if we will ever have the intense fan interest that every other country has, but everyone can get behind a winner. How about some goals?

And after watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the NBA Finals, and the World Cup, I have to say, hockey takes the cake for pace of game, action, and TV viewing.
