Charleston, SC

Today was a busy and prosperous Monday. I started off with some phone calls and set up 3 interviews for the day. The first was with John Duckworth, a rising artist in Charleston. I went to his downtown studio, climbed the flights of stairs, and sat down with a breeze blowing in from the open French doors. His studio had creativity running through it. John’s true calling is art. He also does some graphic design and marketing/PR work. He had a great story and is a truly good guy. I’ve hung out with him in the past and I really like him. He and his wife, Megan, are expecting a baby. Congrats to them.

From there, it was down a few blocks to meet with a guy very well known about Charleston, Neil Stevenson. I was excited to sit down and talk with Neil on a one on one level. I’d met him numerous times and been to many of his parties, but this was our first true conversation. It was a gorgeous day, again, so he decided we should conduct the interview on the rooftop of his office/loft/party palace. I had been up on the roof for a handful of parties, but never during the day. You could see juts about all of Charleston from up there. The conversation went very well. He offered some advice that I will start using immediately.

From there, man it was a busy day, I went to the local ABC News station to interview an executive producer. Cathy O’Hara, who happens to be my cousin’s wife, was very accommodating. I got to sit in and watch the 6 o’clock news with her from the control room. I also was able to sit on set, just off of the viewable screen, and watch the anchor/sports/weather people do their thing. She and I did our interview on the set. There is a ton of energy and in particular, adrenaline, going on behind the scenes. I didn’t realize how much they had to prepare for those 30 minutes. I even taped an OntheRoad send off after things slowed down. Very cool. Thanks for the hospitality.

Finally, my cousin and I went to an art gallery opening. I met some cool people, saw some that I’d met over the weekend, and nibbled on some good food.

As my man Ice Cube once told me, “Today was a good day.”

I’m whipped. Time to crash.
