Rochester, NY

I just came back inside from my first walk on the beach of 2006. Over the course of the past few months I’d replaced the sounds, the smells, and the sights of the beach with other thoughts. Well, they’re back. Hearing the waves lap up on to the shore and watching the seagulls sitting in what has to be frigid water brings me back. Hearing the gulls call out in their annoying shrill, maybe saying, “This sucks. This ice water is killing me.” The wind rustled on the trees that still don’t have their leaves. A what seemed to be a little kid played on the beach in the distance. And the sun shone bright on my winter coat and skull cap. It all points to warmer weather. I don’t remember if I felt the same anticipation for warmth and summer last year, or any year for that matter, but it courses through me.

As I picked up driftwood today, I smiled as I pictured my friends over on an 80 degree day, a mega dinner on the grill, and then the stars settling in to watch as a bonfire blazes at our feet.

But for now, I am back inside, the chill of a lake wind is just about out of me, and I try to get some work done before basketball. Tell Mother Nature Rochester, NY is ready for some spring and summer.
