Salem Sound – Beverly, MA

10:15 AM

I am typing form the library of the Jubilee Yacht Club. This is the place my Aunt and Uncle keep their 38 foot sailboat, Destiny. As I type I can feel the boat rocking back and forth on the water. This is cool except I am not on the water.

I got here late Sunday afternoon. It’s been gray and raining off and on. Lucky for us it’s been dry in the day and wet at night. It makes for good sleeping when you’re on a boat and you can hear the rain hitting you from above.

We got in Sunday and made ourselves comfortable in the new surroundings. Sean and I, he’s 7 and my second cousin, have been hanging around a lot. He’s a bundle of energy but I’ve handled him pretty well. Yesterday UB & AM took Sean (and me) to a small boardwalk with arcades. When I was younger I spent a lot of time in the arcades. They did not have to twist my arm to go back. I ran around with Sean. We played a lot of games. We threw footballs threw small holes, we played the hockey game I remember so well from Chuck E. Cheese, he became infatuated with ticket games so we played some skee ball and a few others. He got a lot of tickets. Of course he couldn’t get much for them. I tried to teach him that ticket games stink and video games are what you can do and play for a long time. My advice, if you have $10, save $1, go to the candy store. Then spend the other 9 on games. He’s 7, so we’ll see. He seemed to get it. Uncle Bill tried to reinforce as well.

The weather has been off so we haven’t sailed much. We will do so tomorrow. We’ve been hanging out, especially at night. It’s another way of life on the water. When I was in Charleston a guy told me he saw me getting a sailboat and never coming back. After being here, he might be right. It’s been a lot of fun catching up with the family. They have a good routine. I’m fitting in pretty good as we have a drink before dinner with snacks and another after dinner. You can’t help but relax out here.

I am typing from the library because we came in for showers. The yacht club has a shower facility. My face is a bit rough. I’ve decided sine I am not a true sailor and going without a shower, I won’t shave. I am miserable without a shower. That should make camping interesting.

The office here is letting me hook up to the internet. I should have an email from the old job seeing what they say. It may be time to cut ties, maybe not.

We’re going to take the dingy around to a port and have some lunch. We’ll be hanging here for tonight. Sean and Nana are going to a movie, it’s the same movie as Dan and Jon were showing me the cards for. I just went and asked Sean, it’s Yugioh.

I may hang with UB and go to a yacht club meeting and/or hang at the bar.

Tomorrow we ride for a while. I’ll then be departing to head to Portland, ME (that’s Maine). I’m meeting a buddy from Rochester and his roommate. We’ll be there and go camp in Acadia National Park. Time flies but I’m also doing my best to slow it down.
