Dublin, Ireland

Many of the people I interviewed told me how their desire to make a difference spurred on their passions. After a Sunday full of family, friends, food and watching the Masters, I unwound by watching a movie I had never heard of. I don’t know why I picked it out at the library, but I did and I sat down to watch. I love movies, but am not enough of a film buff to know what Jerry Bruckheimer and Joel Shumacher have done and what they haven’t, but when I imagine their films, my vision is of shoot ‘em up, how in the world did the hero not get shot pictures. That may be inaccurate, but anyway, the DVD player closed and Cate Blanchett came on the screen. She did a smashing job playing Veronica Guerin, an Irish reporter. And it was definitely not a Hollywood action film, it was so much better. The movie struck me because it showed the power of passion and wanting to make a difference. This woman was so driven to her cause that she was dealt great triumph as well as great tragedy. I will not tell the story of the movie, but this woman who I had never heard of before is a true difference maker.

Bed time.

The movie is called Veronica Guerin. And the bloody Irish accents are not overpowering to the American eardrum. Cheers.
