Berlin

11:33 PM

I type as I eat a small bowl of spaghetti. I should be in bed as I was up until 5 AM last night (girls will do that to you sometimes). I went to the gym earlier today and my bed calls, but my mind is racing. And I guess my belly is too.

I got home a few minutes ago from a movie at the Little Theater, Downfall. It is the story of Hitler’s last days in Berlin. It is based on the account/notes of his secretary. This means it is based on fact with I am assuming some bending. I will not go into detail on the movie other than it is very well done and shows the Nazi empire crumbling. The Russians have Berlin surrounded. Hitler is a nut. His top dawgs don’t know if they should obey or run for their lives.

It is amazing to me that people were so strong for him and for his ideology that they would kill their kids so they would not have to be raised in a non National society. It happened. People took poison because he told them to. All so strange. But it happened.

My mind is not tired because of the movie. I race not because of Hitler and Berlin and Nazi’s. My mind is racing with the final parts of the movie. It said that in WWII there were 50 million deaths. That is 50,000,000 dead. From a war. Wow.

Here is a chart of the casualties by country: http://www.valourandhorror.com/DB/BACK/Casualties.htm

The US lost 295,000 soldiers in WWII. A huge number. China lost 10,000,000 civilians. How can that be? Being in the generation I am in, I have no idea what it would be like to live in this type of environment.

I don’t know much about WWII. I know a little more tonight and it is kind of freaking me out. 50,000,000 people. There are 295,000,000 people in the US today. It is unfathomable.

Will something like this happen again? I don’t know. Things are different know with technology and the media.

So here I am, a finished bowl of spaghetti, a tired body, and a mind that won’t stop. Time to try and go to bed. Golf tomorrow!!!
