Rochester, NY

It’s 3:42 PM. I just woke up from what I hoped to be a recharging nap. It’s still too soon to tell. Tonight is my last night in Rochester as I embark on the second leg of the journey. I am ready to go for the most part, or at least I am in terms of schedule and destinations. I have a to do list that does not have enough time to be completed. Now its 4:00 (my friend Mark called, he’s out of the hospital) and I have to pack all of my clothes, pack my car, take a shower, be ready for company at 5:30, go to my farewell dinner with my family at 6:30, have a few drinks with people and then get ready to leave by 8 AM tomorrow. Not too big of a deal, just too much stuff.

The nap I took was too short. Although, I will say it was great. My parent’s house has two great things about it. My nap took place on a carpet, with a comforter folded up as a bed. I used a sheet as a cover. I was on the floor of my parent’s room. They are on the second floor looking out at the lake. I slide their glass doors open. The waves crashing and the wind entering the room make it a perfect sound for sleep. I have trouble napping outdoors in hammocks or tanning, so this is the closest I get to it. Secondly, they have my favorite place to sit on the toilet. As you sit in their bathroom, you stare out at the lake and the beach. I don’t think anyone can see me, so when nature calls, I go upstairs, open the blinds, and go to work. That’s the shi-.

I went to bed at about 2:30 last night and got up at 7:30. Granted, all I had to do was play golf, but golf wears you out. Compound that with the lack of sleep and the stress of the mind and I am worn out. I thought home would relax. I’ve been doing too much stuff here. But, that is the point of my trip: to experience as much as possible.

I’ll be off to Columbus, OH tomorrow for a BBQ festival. My friend from Charlotte, Steve will be there. He lived there for a while and I’ll be staying at a friend’s place with him. I have an interview slated for Monday with a professor from Ohio State. Then it’s off to Pittsburgh and Uniontown, PA. I have friend’s from Charlotte, two brothers, who live there. It will be good to see them. They are cool guys.

My recap of Rochester is clouded by to do’s. It’s been action packed by reconnecting with people, seeing family, playing golf, staying up late, and enjoying the beach as much as possible. The weather has been cool, as I’ve only had a couple of fires and been in the lake twice. I didn’t go to Letchworth Park or Niagara Falls. They remain on the list.

So, here I go again. The open road, the mystery of who I’ll meet, and what I’ll learn awaits. More people to see. More places to visit. More experiences to have…
