Myrtle Beach, SC

It’s funny how things work out. I arrived in Myrtle Beach with no place to stay and only a camping book. I pulled into Myrtle Beach State Park and was overtaken but the beauty. The drive in is a covered drive, covered by big trees and colorful flowers. You drive back for a mile or so and then you see the ocean. I’m thinking, “Sweet.”

Then I arrive to the camp sites. They are good, but I thought I’d have more space around me. We are all on top of each other. I almost pulled back, got my money back and caved for a hotel. “Suck it up, Harrison.”

So I set up the tent and set out for some food. Things work out. I was craving Subway, so I drove down I-17 South. After a couple of miles, bing, a Subway. But, what is even better, right next door is ICB, Internet Cafe. I popped in, $3 for a half hour. I’m in here typing away with Brad, who works here.

I will admit, today was the first day where I wished I had a travel companion. The State Park is beautiful, but camping alone with a bunch of people next to you is a bit weird. I’ve never been a camper. My cousin and some friends probably will laugh at the thought of me setting up a tent and all of that stuff. But, I did it (first try, Colin. I used a tree to help get the first stick) and I’m ready to get back to the camp site, walk the beach, and see if some kind family will take pity on the solo traveler. I saw some campfires set up and those things draw me like a magnet. We’ll see how that works out.

After lights out I’ll be working at a soup kitchen tomorrow morning and then off to Charleston. I have a 3:30 interview I need to get back for. I’ll be pushing it.

So, I’m off to camp. Out.
