Palm Beach, FL

You don’t realize how alone time can recharge you. During my month of travel, I had a lot of me time, but it was always driving, or sleeping, or walking. Yesterday was the first day I actually had a house to myself. I had stayed with people along the way and when I do that, I try to be conscious of not being in the way or being a hassle. When you camp, you’re always a bit on edge because of the unknown. A bear could try to meet me. An inebriated camper could do something stupid. I could set up camp wrong. When you stay in a hostel, you’re surrounded by other people. Yesterday was me.

I thought that being on the road would really give me introspective time. I have been able to do that a lot, but I learned yesterday that it is different than when you are in a closed, secure place by yourself. Having the door dead bolted, the TV on, and your phone off makes for true relaxation.

As I said yesterday, I did some running around. I got a new phone from Verizon. A flip, LG VX4500. It’s cool because it has a bunch of rings and pictures you can play with. I then ordered my medical insurance which should kick in today. Then I hit the laundry and the pool. This pool is sweet because it’s right on the Waterway. AS I sat, I watched a pelican rise up and dive into the water for fish. I saw it from about 30 feet away. I could see his neck bulge as he came out of the water. He’d fly up about 3 to 5 feet and then plunge down. I sat and stared at this guy for about ten minutes. What was really cool was when he’d attack from a distance. I don’t know how we could tell from 20 feet away in the water, but he’d come out of water and shoot down a bit and then dive bomb. That was much cooler and true than the Friends stuff I watched later that night. But, I still watched both.

I paid some bills, played with my phone, watched some TV, and worked on some updates for the site. The best thing I got out of yesterday is that I’m recharged. A vacation to the Turks recharges you. Going home for Easter recharges you. Sitting on the beach recharges you. But being by yourself in a closed setting really gets the mind working.

Time to hit the to do list. Enjoy the day.
