I’m taking a break from re-working the opening of my book.

If this is the first day of spring, should I be satisfied with 34 and sunny? I guess sunny is good.

I am not an economist, but I don’t understand how it is good for the people of the U.S. when I read that Wal-Mart is adding 150,000 jobs in China and Dell is adding 20,000 in India. I guess it means we can buy our things for less money. But what about those people who probably would have been one of those 170,000 jobs here? The employment cycle for hourly people has spun far away form the US. We make too much money, and expect medical benefits and a pension. I understand the business of it. If you are a company and one of us cost $10/hour plus another $5/hour in benefits versus China which costs $2/hour plus $1 in benefits, there is no comparison. As they say, we are in a global economy. Competition is stiff and if you don’t go overseas, you’re competition will. You will suffer. Which means your stock price will suffer. Which means your shareholders will be PO’d. I have no solution, but I wish our hourly people were able to have more options.

I’m in third on my NCAA bracket. It won’t be as much fun as last year with North Carolina getting knocked out of the tourney. Yet, last year was hard to top, especially with seeing them play live during the Sweet 16 and Elite 8.

Back to work. You should too…
