Charleston, SC

7:44 PM

I type this atop the second floor of my cousin Kevin’s studio (picture will be entered at some point). I am now in Charleston, SC. A beer is on the desk. Kevin and my other cousin Kyle (no relation to Kevin) are outside having a smoke. Van Morrison’s Common One is playing on the record player. Yes, a record player. For those of you that don’t know, Van is the man.

Kyle flew in from Rochester today. I picked him at about 6 from the CHAS airport. Rush hour wasn’t too bad and he was waiting outside for me. I talked to Caytie today and she said it had snowed in Rochester. Kyle was waiting in shorts.

My day was excellent. I drove the hour and a half down 77S to Columbia. I went to grad school there and had lunch with three of my buds from then. They still live in Columbia and are all doing well for themselves.

Matt O just walked in.

We had lunch at Rockaway’s today in COL. A great spot that is a new spot. You have to love a place with no sign. If you know, you know. I felt like the sports reporters or something with all of us at the table talking sports and politics. It is always great to see these guys. Scott and I stuck around for a second. Long enough for 6 holes of Golden Tee which he kicked my butt at. I then made my way to campus and the Coliseum and to visit an old professor. I had a class with Augie and he really made sense. I wished I would’ve went with my gut at t hat time and got all over HDTV, but oh well. It was good to see him. He was my 3rd interview.

From there it was on to 26 and down to Charleston. I had to make a pit stop at a Ramada Inn. I didn’t need sleep, I needed a clean bathroom if you know what I mean. My sales days taught me that you can usually enter a hotel scott free and find a clean bathroom. They don’t know if you were there or not. Travel tip of the day. McDonald’s maybe. Hotel usually.

I got to CHAS at about 4:15. Kyle wasn’t slated to be in until 6, so I came to Kevin and Cathy’s to meet my new cousin, Maisie. What a sight it was. She is 14 months. She had just woken up from a nap. Cathy was in her room and Maisie was standing in her crib, holding onto the rail, bouncing and smiling. I instantly fell in love with her. I picked her up and held her. She squirmed and smiled at her parents.

Kevin and I went over to one of his friends not too long after that to return a DVD player. You should see this guy’s studio. Then it was off to the airport.

I was a minute or two late, but Kyle was there. We went to a store to get beer per Kevin’s request. I of course had no idea where to go. I of course picked the shadiest spot I could find. It was strange being in there, people staring at me. But, I did my thing and here we are. Kyle met Maisie and Cathy. Dinner will soon follow. We are going to meet a lot of people over the next few days.

Time to wash up and head out to a few places.
