Memphis, TN

1:25 PM

I am sitting on the couch at my brother’s place outside of Memphis. What a place it is. It’s easy to relax at a place that has 4.5 bathrooms and enough space to fly a plane through. I got here on Thursday night and have been whipped by the energy of my two young nieces. I am noticing that whenever I am here, I am tired and I snack a lot. The energy of kids is easy to catch, but when it is bed time for them, mine doesn’t come too much later.

We’ve been having a great time. I’ve been going for walks with them, painting, drawing, and had a game of Memory today. It had been a long time since I had played that. Brad and I took the ladies to the park today. Fall is definitely here. I was cold in my jeans and short sleeve T.

Football is on the wall mounted HDTV. I am in heaven.

The phone rang not too long ago. Everyone was asleep but me, so I answered it on the first ring. I didn’t recognize the number (not that I should), but it read Knoxville, TN. The phone call was not from TN at all, it was from Iraq. Season’s brother David was on the other end. I bet he wasn’t that excited to talk to me, but I was all he got. It was good to talk to him. I see him most times I am here. I asked him a lot of questions about where he was and what it was like there. He said he’s outside of Baghdad, near some smaller villages. He compared it to here about 90 years ago, but with a lot of beat up cars. houses are made out of adobe and people sleep on their roof’s at night to stay cool. It is very primitive. We talked for 15 minutes and he was very patient with me as I asked him all that I could. It sounded like he was in good spirits. At one point in the conversation there was a loud boom (I heard it too). He wondered aloud what it was, but after a second he carried on the conversation. I was glad to be able to talk with him and look forward to having him back here.

Now it is more kids and football time.

I’m off to Little Rock tomorrow.
